I've always liked clay. When I was a kid, we dug clay out of the ground, and we made things out of it. We would then take our creations to our elementary school library where the librarian fired them for us.

Last year I ordered a pottery wheel and some clay along with all of the trappings.
Yesterday I played on the wheel, and realized I am not in the mood to wrestle a muddy ball of clay around on a wheel. So, I will need to read a bit more before I dive into that. For now I am doing slab work. This is my first container for lack of a better term. It was fun to make. I used a cake stand and a rolling pin. I also used some embossing rollers.
I like this kind of craft because it encompasses a lot of different tasks, cutting, measuring, designing, assembling, planning.
I imagine making a few dinner plates, vases, leaves shaped do-dad holders, coasters, coffee mugs, penises, you know whatever.
I will let the cobble stone looking one dry for a couple weeks, then I will sand it so that all the edges are rounded. I will then choose a glaze. I am thinking moss green with a yellow base and brown on the inside. I don't know. I want it to have that ancient Asian look. The star container I think I am going to do blue and yellow. I think once I rough it up with sandpaper and glaze it, it's going to be gorgeous. That is if it doesn't crack, warp, or explode in the kiln. I will do a couple more before I take everything to be fired.
