I made this a few months ago. I've made this shirt in the past from a standard KWIK pattern. This is an easy shirt to make with a million variations. This pattern has been around for years and years.
I typically don't use iron-on stabilizer, but I did for this shirt. I found it to be a tad stiff. I usually layer fabric to give it weight to the collar. Either way, I think it turned out great and should last for years and years. 
The fabric is soft cotton and playing close attention to matching the pockets with the pattern of the fabric.
